The Municipality of Polis tis Chrysochous, in collaboration with the Association of Friends of Fine Arts and with the artistic direction of sculptor Christos Lanitis, AIESM Manager for Cyprus, organized the 1st International Sculpture Symposium. Only limestone was used for the realization of the sculptures and the symposium had no specific theme. The aim of the event was to bring together artists from different countries, as well as familiarizing the local community with the art of sculpture.

The Symposium took place between 15- 30 September 2008, at Polistis Chrysochous, Paphos, Cyprus with the participation of nine artists chosen among over 600 projects. Here following the artists selected for the participation to this symposium: Antoine Basbous - Lebanon, Xavier Gonzalez - France, Liliya Pobornikova - Bulgaria, Fanis Rachoutis, Greece, Giorgos Rachoutis - Greece, Janine Kortz-Waintrop - Germany, Abeer Warda - Syria.
