1st Agia Varvara 2006
The First International Sculpture Symposium took place in Ayia Varvara, Cyprus between 20 October and 5 of November, 2006. The symposium was an initiative of the Association of Friends of Fine Arts.
The 1st International Sculpture Symposium was organized by the Association of Friends of Fine Arts with the financial assistance of the European Union (European Fund for Regional Growth INTERREG IIIA, Greece - Cyprus) and others. A second symposium will take place in Oct. 2007again in Ayia Varvara.
The participants to the 1st Int. Sculpture Symposium were: Patrice Belin - France, Roland Mayer - Germany, Jose Miguel Isla Sanz - Spain, Dominica Griesgraber - Poland, Petre Petrov - Bulgaria, Jhoni Gogaberisnvili - Georgia, Nabil Basbus - Lebanon, Assem Al Bacha - Syria, Atnina Antoniadou - Cyprus and Zehra Sonya - Cyprus.
The ten artists worked side by side and at the end of the symposium each created one sculpture. The ten sculptures now form the first phase of the International Sculpture Park of Ayia Varvara which was inaugurated on 29 October 2006 by the President of The House of Representatives of Cyprus, Mr.Dimitris Christofias in the presence of ministers, ambassadors, the local authority, artists and many friends of the fine arts.
